IMLS Offers Grants Workshops for Museums in Six Regions Across the Nation
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is rolling out a new series of regional grant workshops designed for applicants for the museum grant programs. Providing greater access to IMLS funds and resources is one of the agency’s core strategic goals, and these regional workshops are a proactive step towards realizing this goal. These free workshops are intended for new and returning applicants.
Each full-day workshop will offer a comprehensive overview of the IMLS grant programs administered by the Office of Museum Services (OMS), special initiatives such as MAP, CAP, Museums for All, and Museums for Digital Learning, and other agency priorities and resources. OMS staff will help prospective applicants walk through the nuts and bolts of putting together a successful IMLS application.
The six workshop dates and locations are:
- August 14, 2019: Indianapolis, Indiana (Midwest Region)
- August 19, 2019: Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Mountain Plains Region)
- August 27, 2019: Salt Lake City, Utah (Western Region)
- August 29, 2019: Birmingham, Alabama (Southeast Region)
- September 24, 2019: Newark, New Jersey (Mid-Atlantic Region)
- September 26, 2019: Manchester, New Hampshire (Northeast Region).
“We want IMLS funds to benefit museums and related organizations of all types and sizes and across the nation,” said Paula Gangopadhyay, Deputy Director of the Office of Museum Services at IMLS. “In recent years, we have made multiple strategic changes to the grant programs and launched new initiatives to better meet the relevant needs of the museum sector and the communities they serve. These workshops will provide a deep-dive educational opportunity for the attendees. We also know that not all museums can afford to attend annual conferences where IMLS offers sessions, so we are removing the financial barrier since these workshops are free. We are excited to collaborate with leaders from the six regional museum associations whose insights have been extremely invaluable during the planning of these workshops.”
