Washington, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) today announced five competitive grants totaling $241,500 for the Pacific Territories and Freely Associated States.

IMLS provides support for Pacific Territories, Freely Associated States, and U.S. Virgin Islands through a competitive process administered by Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL). This year’s grants were awarded to the following:

  • Feleti Barstow Public Library – Pago Pago, AS
  • Joeten-Kiyu Public Library – Saipan, MP
  • FSM National Archives, Culture and Historic Preservation – Palikir, Pohnpei, FM
  • Palau Ministry of Education – Koror, PW
  • Alele Museum, Public Library and National Archives – Majuro, MH

"These projects support IMLS priorities such as digital readiness and summer learning in places with unique challenges, including remote island geography, high connectivity costs, and environmental vulnerability," said IMLS Director Susan H. Hildreth. "Federal funds go a long way toward addressing these obstacles and ensuring library services reach users throughout the Freely Associated States and Territories.”
