The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum will digitize and create free online access to the Judd Family Papers, an estimated 2,400-item collection comprised of journals, documents, and personal and official correspondence of the Judd family from about 1823 to 1903. The Judd Family arrived in Hawaii in 1828. Dr. Gerrit Parmele (G. P.) Judd was a trained physician and put his skills to work immediately upon arrival, attending to the needs of Native Hawaiians. After years of developing trustworthy relationship with the royal family, Dr. Judd accepted an appointment in the royal government. The project team will purchase and use equipment and cataloging software, establish cataloging procedures, and perform weekly quality control checks, as catalog records are created. This project will benefit the library and archives patrons as well as the larger the Native Hawaiian community.
