Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Council

Log Number: NAE-256782-OLS-24

The P'oe Tsawa Community Library of the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo in New Mexico will enhance its programs and services by incorporating the Ohkay Owingeh Tewa language, culture, and history of the Tribe throughout its offerings. This will be achieved through community engagement, bringing together the knowledge and skills of community members to share with the library’s users. This project will introduce an internship program at the P’oe Tsawa Community Library for local high school and college students to learn about the daily operations of the library and its programs. The project features classes focused on traditional regalia and craft creation, as well as the incorporation of Tewa language instruction and educational materials across library services. In partnership with the Ohkay Owingeh Headstart, Ohkay Owingeh Community School, and Ohkay Owingeh Education Department, multiple age groups, families, and Tribal staff will benefit from the project.
