Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe

The Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe and their partner library, the McDermitt Branch Library, will create a range of digital services, with the goal of preserving the Tribe’s endangered Northern Paiute language. A language and culture database will be developed, comprising historical and contemporary written and oral documents relative to the culture of the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe. Instructional materials to teach the Northern Paiute language via video and audio media will be created. Additionally, funds will support remote classes at the University of Nevada Reno and Boise State University to build capacity in cultural management and promote professional development in the rural McDermitt community. The project will benefit Paiute community as a whole and young adults in the McDermitt community, in particular.
