Bastrop County African American Cultural Center

The Bastrop County African American Cultural Center will build staff capacity for programming and exhibition development. For the project, the Center will hire a part-time Programs Coordinator to manage community engagement programs, including a Black Bastrop History Walking Tour. Staff will work with volunteers and a paid intern to collect twelve oral histories from Bastrop descendant community elders, which will be utilized in exhibitions and programming. Additionally, descendant families will be invited to bring family letters, photographs, or documents to be professionally scanned for historic preservation. Exhibitions will feature a touch-screen computer to make the oral histories available to visitors, and oral histories will be featured in audio narrative descriptions generated for the walking tour.
