Houston Public Library (The African American Library at the Gregory School)

The African American Library at the Gregory School, a branch of the Houston Public Library, will digitize and publicize 17,900 archival items in the Ben Desoto Collection. Project activities will include creation of library exhibits, community museum exhibits, digital applications, community programming, and website enhancements. The library will hire a full-time archivist and part-time digital technician to process photographs, negatives, and other archival items that document the daily life and accomplishments of Houston’s Black residents during the late 20th century. The digitization of this collection will result in enhanced outreach opportunities, expanded access to archival materials, and improved collections management of source materials for public use.
