Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) will upgrade technology in its 26,200-square-foot permanent exhibition to enhance the visual and audio experiences for visitors. The permanent exhibition tells the story of segregation and the struggle of ordinary citizens whose commitment and sacrifices changed our nation and continue to have a positive impact on the world. The original exhibition design incorporated substantial elements of immersive audio and video experiences. This project will support the installation of new monitors, digital video players and projectors, and control systems to offer visitors the highest quality, immersive environment. The grant will assure that BCRI's more than 160,000 annual visitors continue to experience the history of Birmingham and the Civil Rights Movement as a multimedia journey.
