Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium
Log Number: MA-31-18-0381-18
The Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium will conserve eight taxidermy mounts and groupings with the assistance of two independent object conservators. The historic taxidermy specimens are part of the original collections that were acquired for the museum, and help promote the overall aesthetic of the late Victorian era in which it was founded. The two conservators will work on site at the museum, in both storage and exhibition spaces, allowing visitors to see conservation work in progress. The museum's collections manager will observe the work of the conservators, learning new cleaning techniques that can be applied to other natural history specimens to build the museum's internal capacity to address future minor conservation needs.
