City of Roanoke (Roanoke Visitor Center and Museum)

The Roanoke Visitor Center and Museum will improve the care of its collections by installing new lighting for its permanent and temporary exhibits. The museum will work with outside consultants to design and install a new lighting system for its 600 square foot exhibit area, and purchase new tracks, fixtures, and accessories. The improved system will have built-in dimmers for each fixture to improve both the visitor experience and the long-term preservation of textiles and artifacts by managing the lighting intensity. The project is based on the recommendations of a professional conservation assessment, and the museum plans to share the project results with other small museums as an example of steps that can be taken to achieve standards in collections care.
