Western Washington University (Western Gallery, Western Washington University)

The Western Gallery at Western Washington University will conserve Untitled 1982, an outdoor sculpture by artist Donald Judd. The sculpture is in critical need of repairs due to serious rusting damage and was removed from public display in 2013 due to safety concerns. A fine arts contractor will provide treatment, involving repair and refabrication of the sculpture's six Cor-ten steel panels according to a plan endorsed by the Judd Foundation. The museum will then move the sculpture to a new drier location with favorable water run-off and airflow conditions. A new base design and a French drain will facilitate intermittent drying of the Cor-ten and support the long-term preservation of the sculpture.
