The Archaeology Center at Stanford University will address a high priority recommendation from its recent participation in the Museum Assessment Program by conducting the first complete baseline inventory of its accessioned collections. The museum will establish intellectual and physical control by producing a complete, reliable inventory and adding verified records to its online collections database. Based on the findings of a pilot inventory conducted to generate a qualitative and quantitative understanding of inventory needs, the museum determined that the project will require two years for two full-time project staff. The inventory project will improve stewardship of the museum's 35,000-item archaeological and ethnographic collections, and facilitate access for campus, tribal, and public constituencies.
