University of South Carolina (McKissick Museum, University of South Carolina)

The McKissick Museum at the University of South Carolina will collaborate with five university units and the Charleston Museum to digitize, build a cross-referenced and searchable website, and create online exhibitions of natural history object and archival collections. The activities will expand the Historic Southern Naturalists project, initially funded through an internal research seed grant. The museum will engage student assistants to digitize approximately 35,000 objects, manuscript volumes, and archival documents from diverse high-priority collections at the University of South Carolina and the Charleston Museum. The project will result in an anticipated 45,000 digital images to augment institutional collection databases and for use in online portals.
