University of Vermont (Fleming Museum, University of Vermont)

The Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont will improve the care of its collection of American and European garments and accessories dating from 1790-1987. The project represents a direct response to a recommendation from the American Alliance of Museums Accreditation Visiting Committee. The museum will initiate the project by consulting with a textile conservator to assess the condition and care needs of 1,709 items in the collection. The museum will purchase new archival storage boxes for rehousing the items, as well as mannequins so that garments can be photographed on forms. The project team will photograph the materials to support the museum's efforts to make its collections searchable and accessible online.
