Carnegie Institute (Carnegie Museum of Natural History)

Carnegie Museum of Natural History will undertake a two-year project to conduct a risk assessment of its scientific, educational, and exhibition collections, based on recommendations from previous collections and environmental surveys. The risk assessment will be designed to evaluate, codify, and prioritize the many hazards facing the collections, a proactive step toward prioritizing improvements to both stored and exhibited holdings for the museum's estimated 22 million objects and specimens. Project activities will include educational and professional development opportunities for exhibit and education staff members designed to improve awareness about how public activities can impact collections, both in galleries and behind the scenes. The activities will also seek to build interdepartmental collaboration and promote shared vigilance among all museum staff to identify and resolve risks and become better stewards and advocates for the collections.
