Pennsylvania State University (Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum and Art Gallery)
Log Number: MA-30-17-0144-17
The Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum at the Pennsylvania State University will implement recommendations from a collections survey by upgrading the care and management of its geological collections. The museum will hire a curatorial assistant to help move the collections out of old cases, many of them wooden, into new state-of-the-art metal cases. The new airtight cases will facilitate the creation of microenvironments for mineral specimens that require special environmental conditions while protecting the collections from light and dust. By ensuring the preservation of the collections, the project will provide graduate students at the university and the broader museum community of central Pennsylvania educational benefits from continued research and use of the collection.
