Washington University (Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Washington University)

The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis will contract with conservators for conservation treatments for eight sculptures, all of which were identified as priorities in previous conservation assessments. The assessments indicated an immediate need for treatment given the significance of each artifact to the core collection. In addition to stabilizing the works, short-term results of the project will include treatment reports with instructions for ongoing maintenance or care for each artwork. Project products will include a compilation of reports on surveyed artworks, before and after photographs of each artwork, and identification of areas of particular conservation concern. The detailed information from the treatments will be recorded in the museum's collections database and object files, components of which will be available on the museum's website. The treated objects will be stable and appropriate for display, and new insight will be gained about their material structure and condition.
