Rochester Museum and Science Center

The Rochester Museum and Science Center will reorganize and rehouse its cultural heritage collections in environmentally upgraded collections storage to improve long-term preservation and access to the collections. The museum will purchase and install collections-appropriate mobile storage equipment to safely house an estimated 10,000 ethnology objects, 400 household textiles, 700 paintings, and 8,000 industrial technology objects. The project addresses the museum's most critical collections preservation challenge-lack of high-quality storage-and builds on several recent collections care improvement initiatives, including a major collections storage improvement planning study undertaken with the help of expert consultants. The museum is renovating on-site storage spaces to accommodate these collections based on specifications outlined in the study.
