Log Number: MA-256288-OMS-24
The National Museum of Mexican Art will offer a bilingual artist residency program for Chicago Public School K-12 students in schools with high percentages of Latino children. The museum’s artist residency program supports state standards for English language arts and literacy. The museum will train and support teaching artists in effective strategies for working with teachers and children. Teachers will receive professional development in Mexican art and history and learn strategies for integrating art and artmaking into classroom learning. Students will gain art-making, arts literacy, social-emotional development, and critical thinking skills through a series of lessons and activities taught by their teacher and supported by a teaching artist in the classroom, and through museum exhibition tours. The program will foster arts literacy skills and an appreciation of Mexican art and culture while serving as many as 30 teachers and 750 students annually.
