North Carolina Aquariums (North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island)
Log Number: MA-255944-OMS-24
The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island will collaborate with the NC Coastal Federation to launch an exhibit and series of programs that explain the importance of oyster conservation to clean water habitats and highlight the depletion of North Carolina’s oyster stocks due to natural and man-made challenges. The exhibition will educate visitors about the role of oysters in maintaining healthy coastal environments and feature live animals, touchable models, a soundscape, and interactive media. The aquarium will also serve as a primary educational destination for the NC Oyster Trail and operate an oyster shell drop-off site for the NC Coastal Federation. As a result, visitors will increase their understanding of managing oyster reefs to support sustainable wild harvests and take action to support oyster conservation and restoration.
