Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History

The Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History will digitize, document, rehouse, and make available online its photograph collection of over 8,500 prints, negatives, slides, tintypes, and glass plate negatives. The images document Santa Cruz County individuals, industries, businesses, neighborhoods, events and more from the mid-1800s through the late-1900s. The project will support the hiring of an archives assistant, who will undertake the majority of the digitization work. The project will result in an updated collection guide, a culturally sensitive custom vocabulary, improved website navigation to the collections database, and a searchable archive of the collection. The project will improve the long-term preservation of the collection by reducing handling and improving storage conditions, and will benefit scholars, educators, and the public through increased accessibility to the collection.
