Cleveland Museum of Art
Log Number: MA-253575-OMS-23
The Cleveland Museum of Art will launch an initiative to create and share 600 3D photogrammetry images of works from its 63,000-object permanent collection. Once created, these images will serve audiences through in-person interactives and virtual resources. The cross-departmental museum team will finalize the object list and engage with a contractor to commission the 3D models, which will involve photographing the objects, feeding the images into a 3D software program, and then conducting a complex series of steps to produce the model and animation. Completed photogrammetry images will be available on the museum website and through host repositories. As a result, the museum will advance its Open Access initiative by making the models accessible to institutions of all sizes and types and promote responsible caretaking and preservation of cultural artworks.
