Historic Germantown will pilot a hybrid virtual and classroom-based, standards-aligned, interdisciplinary educational program that incorporates math, art, science, and history using primary-source material for Philadelphia middle school students. The program is built around a problem-based service-learning project partnering eighth grade students with projects that address a particular community-based problem or need. Project activities include creating and evaluating curriculum and related materials, recruiting schools to participate, training staff, and implementing and evaluating programs. The pilot project will result in curriculum design documents for participating museum sites and educators which include problem-based service-learning resources. A dedicated program website with 3-D videography of the buildings, landscapes, and collection items of the Historic Germantown partner sites, and related virtual-learning content will also be accessible to the general public.
