The Walters Art Museum will develop "Ethiopia at the Crossroads," an exhibition that celebrates the artistic traditions of Ethiopia from antiquity to the present. This exhibition will explore the cultural significance and humanistic legacy of Ethiopia through new, broadened lenses, including community voices and interactive experiences, and will examine how Ethiopia embodies the idea of "crossroads" geographically, historically, and culturally. Project activities will include finalizing the exhibition design and installation, working with national and international institutions and private collections to ship loaned artworks, and working with a community advisory group to develop a suite of related public programs. As a result, visitors to the museum and program participants will increase their understanding of the complex exchange of visual culture between Ethiopia and the world.
