South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (Museum of Geology)

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’s Museum of Geology will catalog and rehouse specimens from its mineralogy and petrology collections that document the mineral diversity of the Black Hills and include ores of many strategic minerals. Staff will train and work with two graduate students and one undergraduate student to identify, curate, and rehouse specimens as well as digitize collection records. As a result of the project, staff will provide public access to the collection through an online collections database that will include photography and 3D scans of curated minerals for the benefit of faculty, students, staff, and visiting researchers of mineralogical sciences.
