Log Number: MA-252885-OMS-23
The Carnegie Museum of Natural History will conserve, rehouse, and digitize 15,000 archival letters and documents that compose the Holland Correspondence Archive. Spanning from 1896 to 1913, the Archive includes correspondence between the museum’s first director, William J. Holland, and colleagues, partners, and researchers. Staff will work with conservators to address immediate threats to the archive as well as rehouse and store the collection. The project will result in a fully digitized, searchable, partially transcribed, and properly secured archive that will provide insight into the museum’s earliest years, collecting ideologies at the turn of the 20th century, and foundational museum operation practices.
