Walters Art Museum
Log Number: MA-251957-OMS-22
The Walters Art Museum will produce a long-term exhibition and related programming featuring approximately 550 artworks from its Asian and Islamic art collection. With discrimination against AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) individuals and Muslims on the rise, the Walters collections of art by Asian and Muslim peoples can be utilized to deepen public understanding and increase empathy. Project staff will rotate objects in the exhibition, many of which have not been on display for generations, and incorporate work by living, contemporary artists. Educational programs and in-gallery experiences will enrich the display to reach both existing and new audiences, including those from communities represented by the artworks. Staff will use evaluation, community input, and user testing to continuously guide adjustments to the exhibit components and educational programs.
