Milwaukee Art Museum
Log Number: MA-249181-OMS-21
The Milwaukee Art Museum will undertake professional digital imaging of its permanent collection, emphasizing works that are made by, or tell the narrative of, traditionally marginalized communities. The project will make 3,000 works available to the public on its collection website, prioritizing those by artists of color and women, as well as artwork that conveys the narratives of individuals or populations frequently overlooked in the context of the encyclopedic museum. This will inform the museum’s collection documentation practice moving forward, support ongoing curatorial research, and allow broader audiences access to the works online. The sampling will serve as the pilot group for what the museum ultimately intends to be a collection-wide open access policy.
