Memphis Brooks Museum of Art

The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will conduct a complete assessment of its 10,000-object permanent collection in preparation for a relocation to a new facility in 2025. Expert consultants will provide a report on individual objects-including textiles, furniture, Pre-Columbian art, and historic frames-to include their date of creation, condition, construction, quality, provenance, and more. The project includes stakeholder workshops and public talks with assessors to discuss their findings. Museum staff will photograph any reviewed objects from the collection that require new or improved visual documentation. With improved photography equipment, the Brooks will be able to leverage the assessment process to digitize more of its permanent collection and upload the images to the museum's database, as well as make them publicly accessible through its website.
