Log Number: MA-20-19-0547-19
Sealaska Heritage Institute will establish a North West Coast Arts training program to support the needs of underserved individuals and others seeking to advance their skills in creating traditional arts. Building on a successful pilot program, the institute will continue its partnership with the University of Alaska, Southeast, assessing local and regional arts training needs and developing curricula for six Northwest Coast art courses. Over the span of the project timeline, the institute will serve 225 individuals through classes presented at a local community center and at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. Participants will learn small business development skills and sustainable approaches to support their self-directed economic goals. The project will create a foundation for the development of a Northwest Coast Arts Certificate of Merit program in Juneau.
