Mills College (Mills College Art Gallery)

The Mills College Art Museum (MCAM) will complete a two-phase collection digitizing and cataloging initiative. Focusing on MCAM's collection of works on paper, the first phase of the project will standardize catalog records, establish copyright for artwork, develop digitizing and metadata standards manuals, and create a digital image database. Collection records and images will be made available for public online searches through the museum’s Web site. The second phase will complete the project by digitizing, cataloging, and creating online searches for the museum’s paintings, textiles, and three-dimensional objects, following the processes and standards established in the first phase. Through this project, MCAM will achieve its priority strategic objectives of dramatically improving accessibility to and awareness of its permanent collection, supporting student training in museum practices, and creating a lasting tool that will improve collections management and utilization of the collection.
