The San Diego Historical Society (SDHS) will digitize, catalog, and make Web accessible a collection of 7,118 images (6,680 photographs and 438 drawings) that document the lives of Native Americans in San Diego County from 1903 through the 1930s. The images are the work of E. H. Davis (1862–1951). Davis documented, photographed, studied, and wrote about the same San Diego communities over the course of many years. During the project, SDHS staff will collaborate with a specially hired staff, a cataloger/researcher, and an image technician, and will seek extensive input from both the Native American and scholarly communities to identify the subjects of the images. The Balboa Park Online Collaborative will serve as partner on the project to facilitate social tagging of the images and offer technical support.
