Purpose: Supporting Lifelong Learning The dual goal of the Community Education Program at La Raza Galleria Posada is to provide educational enrichment to the diverse communities of the greater Sacramento area and to preserve the artistic and cultural traditions of Chicano/Latino and indigenous populations. Since its inception in 1972, the gallery has offered a variety of educational activities and pursued community outreach. In this project, the gallery will hire a full-time education director and create a formalized program. The education director will recruit interns and implement a program that is a hybrid of new services and those the gallery already offers. The program will build on the Mas Caras program of age-appropriate multidisciplinary arts workshops to offer ongoing workshops for adults and children in a variety of artistic disciplines. An event series of scholarly lectures, panel discussions with artists and others involved in the arts, and poetry and book readings and signings will be implemented. The gallery will expand its age-appropriate educational resources by, for example, developing educational guides for each exhibit for students, teachers, and gallery visitors. All educational materials will be available on the gallery's Web site and will be translated into Spanish. Finally, the gallery will conduct outreach activities in the diverse communities of the greater Sacramento area.
