Newton Historical Society

Purpose: Supporting Lifelong Learning The Newton History Museum at the Jackson Homestead will expand its role as a provider of public programs and school-oriented educational programs to sustain lifelong learning for residents of Newton, regional communities, and local school districts. The focus of the project is investment in the capacity of the museum through restructuring and expanding its Public Programs and Education divisions so that it can continue to develop as a community cultural and educational resource and meet the goals of its strategic plan. The grant will support a full-time public programs manager and expanded hours for the education manager and marketing manager. This restructuring will allow the museum to make progress toward two primary goals from its strategic plan: (1) increase the quantity and quality of public programs for Newton and the surrounding communities and (2) increase the educational programs in the museum's four core areas of school programming. The new Public Programs and Education Department will be involved in five ongoing activities: (1) assessment, (2) program development, (3) program administration, (4) program delivery, and (5) evaluation.
