Purpose: Supporting Lifelong Learning Through the lens of seventeenth-century Wampanoag and English living history interpretation, Plimoth Plantation offers a powerful story with a unique cross-cultural perspective to more than 400,000 domestic and international visitors each year. The plantation's exhibits include the "1627 Pilgrim Village" and the "Mayflower II," as well as a Crafts Center and an internationally respected Rare and Heritage Breed Livestock Program. In this project, the museum will redesign its orientation program to increase its capacity to serve its diverse audience. The new Visitor Orientation Program, with its independent content modules, will include (1) computer-programmable orientation film modules to serve families, educators, and school groups onsite in the two orientation theaters or offsite in classrooms; (2) linked technology upgrades that will enable more efficient presentation and will allow the museum to make changes to accommodate its strategic plan, which includes long-term physical and programmatic changes; and (3) key enhancements to orientation content that will elucidate the museum's cross-cultural mission and changing interpretation styles.
