Purpose: Sustaining Cultural Heritage The proposed Historic Interiors Restoration and Furnishing Plan is the cornerstone of the visitor-oriented strategic plan for Stonehurst. Stonehurst will create a richer and more complete visitor experience of the property by developing an interpretive plan, increasing the number of period rooms and gallery spaces, and expanding educational programming for the general public. This is the first systematic effort to design thematic tours and exhibits for the nascent historic house museum. A plan for the interpretation of individual spaces will be crafted around a storyline that will capture the imaginations of visitors. The story of Stonehurst will be expressed through a combination of period rooms and gallery spaces for both changing and permanent exhibits. In addition to an illustrated description of layouts and finishes for each space, it will include room-by-room action plans for phased implementation of interior restoration, interpretation, and furnishings, as well as maintenance of interiors.
