Purpose: Sustaining Cultural Heritage The Museum of Anthropology at Wake Forrest University will purchase a data management program designed specifically for museums and will hire a temporary registrar to facilitate data migration and catalog cleanup. The museum's collections and collections research have outgrown the present catalog system. The new system will enable more efficient access to collections data and tracking of object locations; allow for collections and data growth and expansion, including research notes; and enable digital photographs of objects to accompany the catalog information. Improved data management is necessary for the museum to complete date entry for approximately 21,000 archaeological artifacts and to correct and clean up its ethnographic collections catalog of some 5,000 objects. The project will enable the museum to complete its computerization of the catalog and to reorganize storage and inventory, confirm or correct locations, complete photographic documentation of objects, and undertake an accurate conversion assessment.
