University of Washington (University of Washington, The Information School)
Log Number: LG-256579-OLS-24
The University of Washington will partner with the Public Library Association to provide library staff with resources and a replicable model to support teaching information literacy in public and school libraries. The project will: 1) develop a mock social media website, including an initial set of posts, designed to support library staff in running fact-checking exercises within information literacy instruction; 2) co-design and implement teen programs and supporting resources that provide an authentic environment for information literacy instruction in public libraries, while addressing instructional pitfalls of using “live” examples on social media; and 3) refine the materials through feedback, iterate and expand the resources with school librarians, and disseminate the resources. The project team will develop a website, associated professional development resources, and a model using teen engagement to provide a sustainable means for keeping the website updated with curated material.
