Museum of the Aleutians
Log Number: ARPML-250617-OMLS-22
The Museum of the Aleutians in Unalaska, Alaska, will catalogue and re-house archaeological materials and include them in the Alaska Digital Archives and on the museum’s website. Items to be catalogued include the Laughlin Collection, which includes cultural material from the Chaluka archaeological site excavated by William Laughlin and his students from 1960–1976, and three additional archaeological assemblages. The museum will hire an archaeologist to work with staff and volunteers to catalog and re-house the materials. To reengage with visitors and volunteers following the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum will host a lecture series focused on capturing the public’s interest in archaeology and fostering a sense of stewardship regarding cultural resources.
