The Palo Alto Art Center Foundation in California will strengthen its capacity to engage and serve individuals and families with disabilities of all kinds. Individuals with disabilities and their families have been disproportionately impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation will provide a year of exhibitions—including The Art of Disability Culture in fall 2021—as well as school field trips, partner exhibition tours, public programs, exhibition and public program interpretation and access features, new staffing positions to support accessibility, and staff training. Through yearlong enhanced interpretive features in its free-admission exhibitions, public programs, and employment opportunities, the project will primarily serve individuals with visual, hearing, and physical disabilities. An advisory board including representatives from local disability-related organizations will guide the foundation, with an external firm evaluating the program.
