The Harrison County Historical Society in Marshall, Texas, will catalogue and place online for public access two special collections of cultural heritage material received during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bishop College Special Collection includes approximately 600 original documents dating from 1889 to 1918, a period when the college provided higher education for African Americans. The Starr Land Abstract Plant Special Collection is made up of original property abstracts recording headright ownership of land and subsequent ownership events between 1836 and 1916. The Society will hire a digital archivist to process the special collections and purchase equipment to support digitization of the collection images, all of which will be catalogued in an online database, resulting in improved online services that respond to the community's need for access to the collections.
