The District of Columbia Public Library has 26 branches and offers programs and services designed to meet the needs of the community. DCPL has immersed itself in the community and recent programs include “Beyond the Book,” a program designed to encourage reading in students from kindergarten through third grade; working with the DC Department of Health to convert neighborhood libraries into vaccination and test kit distribution centers; working with a variety of partners to preserve the artifacts and art created during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests; and working with the DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer to launch a “Tech Together” initiative that included the distribution of 10,000 internet-ready devices to senior citizens and other at-risk groups.
