By Melissa Heintz Public Affairs Specialist, IMLS Columbus Museum of Art Executive Director Nanette Maciejunes thinks that creativity is a critical 21^st century skill that we all should have. She also believes that we can discover our passions in life by connecting with art. Look no further than the Columbus Museum of Art to think outside of the box! Programs like ArtLab help teens tap into their curiosities and interests and turn them into skills. Nineteen-year-old Jeffrey Tucker claimed he was the “master disaster of technology.” Prior to coming to the museum, he hadn’t dreamed of working with fancy laptops or HD video cameras. He was afraid to use high-tech gadgets until his ArtLab mentor taught him that something good can come from conquering your fears. Through ArtLab, he discovered his passion for filmmaking. Jeffrey now aspires to be a film producer and credits the museum for opening up his mind to a new dream. The Columbus Museum of Art was one of 10 winners of the 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation’s highest honor for libraries and museums that are serving their communities in exceptional ways.
