You'll see some unexpected things if you visit the Park View High School Library Media Center in the morning before school starts. Students play instruments in a multicultural jam session as others finish projects and print papers for their morning classes. In this video, Media Library Specialist Candace Main Rush discusses how extended hours benefit the school and community, aiding the students in their productivity and providing a safe area for them to spend time. Media Library Specialist Jennifer Fisher talks about the importance of the library as a classroom, working with academic classes to teach computer programs to students and to assist with research projects. Student Council Association President Pablo Rivera says what makes his school library unique are the genuine smiles people are greeted with at the door that make students feel at home.
The Park View High School Library Media Center was one of 10 winners of the 2012 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation’s highest honor for libraries and museums that are serving their communities in exceptional ways. Winners of the 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service will be announced on April 23, 2013.
